Rhythms of the Diaspora: Drum, Dance, and Cultural Memory

Join multidisciplinary artist Jordan Taylor Hill for an immersive exploration of Afro-diasporic rhythm, movement, and storytelling. Blending live drumming, call-and-response song, and participatory dance, this interactive performance traces the cultural connections between West African and Afro-Caribbean traditions while inviting audiences into collective rhythm-making.

Presented as a self-contained duo with live percussion, the first hour centers high-energy performance interwoven with historical context and audience participation. The final portion of the program opens into dialogue, offering space for questions about cultural preservation, artistic process and Jordan’s current NYSCA-supported project, Songs Born of Tradition, which develops new works rooted in traditional rhythms and movement practices.

No prior experience is necessary — just a willingness to listen, move and engage.
