Kaplan’s newest book is Waste Land: A World in Permanent Crisis (Jan. 2025), an urgent exploration of a world in which every regional disaster threatens to become a global conflict— featuring lessons from history that may help us stop the spiral.
His 23 bestselling books on foreign affairs and travel include The Loom of Time (2023), The Revenge of Geography (2012), The Coming Anarchy (1994), and Balkan Ghosts (1993). For three decades he reported on foreign affairs for The Atlantic. Foreign Policy twice named him one of the world's "Top 100 Global Thinkers."
Bartle Bull, former editor of the Middle East Monitor, is the author of Land Between the Rivers: A 5,000-Year History of Iraq (2024), an epic, five millennia history of the region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers— the birthplace of civilization, and an essential crossroads between East and West up until today. He has reported from the Middle East for the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Foreign Policy, Die Welt, and other publications. He is the only western journalist to have been embedded with the Shia militia known as the Mahdi Army in Iraq.
