Natalie Merchant, one of the defining singer-songwriters of her generation, discusses her new album and multimedia collaboration, "Cabinet of Wonder," an ambitious educational project based on traditional Mother Goose nursery rhymes and original songs.

The project grows out of Merchant’s experience as a teaching artist at a Head Start preschool in Troy as its artist-in-residence for three years.

Merchant was lead singer and primary songwriter for 10,000 Maniacs before pursuring her solo career. Five of the band’s songs became top ten hits on Billboard’s Modern Rock Track music chart, including the #1 hit, “These Are Days.” Her nine acclaimed solo albums include "Tigerlily," "Ophelia," "Motherland," "Natalie Merchant" and "Paradise Is There."

2026 Engage America: A Century of American Diplomacy

Whether you are interested in global affairs, public service, history, national security or international careers, this event offers a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts of diplomacy in action and engage with experts in the field. Join the International Center of the Capital Region (ICCR) and the University at Albany for a compelling evening exploring the human side of American diplomacy and the critical role diplomats play in advancing U.S. interests, supporting American citizens abroad, strengthening global partnerships and promoting international understanding. Through these vivid, human-centered stories, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how diplomacy impacts everyday American life and why international engagement matters locally as well as globally.

Featured presentation by Tom Selinger, a recently retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer, titled Portraits of American Diplomacy.

Drawing from the rich oral history archives of the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training (ADST), Selinger will share powerful and personal stories of diplomats — including individuals from New York — who have helped rescue Americans in crisis, opened international markets for American businesses and agriculture, strengthened alliances that protect our collective security, and advanced democratic values around the world. In recognition of America’s 250th Anniversary, Selinger will also highlight fascinating stories from the earliest days of American diplomacy, including how American diplomats in Paris helped secure support critical to winning the Revolutionary War.

Panel discussion moderated by Dr. Havidán Rodríguez, University at Albany President. The panel will feature:

Back aboard you will pass through the Athletics complex and finally, view a sample Student Housing SuiteSpace is limited and reservations will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admissions Welcome Sessions, Campus Tours, and Trolley Tours are offered separately. If you would like to attend one or all of them, please make sure you select from the options above. While we do encourage you to attend one of our Welcome Sessions, it is not required to participate in a campus or trolley tour. Tour location details: All admission sessions and tours begin at University Hall. If your visit begins with an academic experience such as a classroom visit or meeting with a professor, please head directly to the location indicated on the event. Visit University Hall after your session to meet with Admissions staff.Parking information: Once you arrive on campus, look for "Admissions" displayed in purple on the directional signs. Please park in Visitor Lot 1A first, then return to the kiosk to enter your validation code to prevent blocking the bus circle. At the kiosk, select “Validation Code” on the lower left of the screen. Enter your 6-digit validation code, followed by your license plate number; choose whether you would like a receipt. Your parking will be registered digitally, so there is no need to display anything on your dashboard.

Admissions Welcome Sessions are presentations from an Admissions Counselor that give students a better understanding of our location, academic programs, the application process and student life at the University at Albany.Campus Tours are available on weekdays 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with an additional 2:30 p.m. Campus Tour beginning in August.

Join us for a traditional tour around campus.
