Puerto Rican Women and Liberation

When: Friday, October 11, 2024
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Description: The colonial legacy of controlling women's sexuality and reproduction is evident in practices like IUD testing, birth control pills, and sterilization. We especially see this phenomenon occur through the sterilization of Puerto Rican women during the 1930's and 1970's, when about one-third of Puerto Rican women of childbearing age underwent the procedure most of the time without consent. This program will aim to bring attention to their stories.
